Praying scriptures over your child: Favor

Everyone has bad days, and now children are feeling disconnected from their communities and God. Pray that every morning that child will wake up and know they are loved unconditionally by God.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14)

Praying scripture over your children: Wisdom

Pray your children will not be deceived by the lies of the world and that they cling to Jesus for salvation. Ask God to give them teachable hearts so they can receive the full benefits of engaging in the Word.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believe…All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2nd Timothy 3:14-17)

Praying scriptures: Love

Ask God to give your children hearts that love God and others. Pray for protection against becoming casual or indifferent in how they care for those around them.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.  (John 13:34-35)

Scriptures to pray: Faith

Praying this scripture will emphasize the importance of your child focusing their mind on God, no matter the circumstances. Pray for a strong and enduring confidence in God all the days of their lives.

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you… ‘Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all Flesh. Is anything too hard for me?’ (Jeremiah 32:17, 27)

Scriptures to pray: for Purity

Only God can create clean hearts and renew spirits within us. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s leading and conviction about unconfessed sin. That he will draw them to rejoice in the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore me to the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. (Psalm 51:10-12)

Praying scripture over your children: Speech

Pray that your child would have a lifestyle of rejoicing, prayer, and thankfulness. May God give them boldness in speaking truth and love to those around them.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Praying scripture over your children: Conduct

Thank God first for creating your child and reflect on how he is an important part of his plan for the world. Pray for the strength to live faithfully even when it is difficult. Ask God to help them start their journey of faith with him well, and more importantly finish well.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

Praying scripture over your children: Obedience

Not only do we pray for our children to be used for God’s glory, but we pray for hearts that long to be obedient to his will for them. Pray God develops their heart, mind, and spirit to be submissive to his perfect will.

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being… (Ephesians 3:14-15)

Praying scripture over your children: Thankfulness

The most well known bible verse in the world can sometimes feel stale, but when we really dive into it and recognize the magnitude of the saying, it can be overwhelming. Pray that your child will never lose sight of what God has done for them.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him would not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Praying scripture over your children: Peace

The same God who created the heavens and earth, loved your child enough to send his son to die for them. Pray that the peace that comes with that knowledge would go with your child everywhere they go.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (Isaiah 26:3-4)

Praying scripture over your children: Patience

Remember how hard it is to be patient as a child? Pray that your child would know that God is always working on their behalf, even when they can’t see it. Ask their heavenly Father that they would have the patience to wait for him to move in their lives and the lives of those around them.

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:10)

Scriptures to pray: Joy

Happiness is a temporary, fleeting feeling. Pray God would bestow a spirit of Joy on your child, that they would live a worshipful life constantly saying “Glory to God in the highest!”

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! (Luke 2:14)
